Event Description

Come and experience a unique musical journey on Friday 26 August, under the sky in one of Sydney's best-kept secret gardens. We invite you into an urban oasis of cascading vocals and reverberating tones, brought to you by World Class Harpist, Loni Fitzpatrick & friends.

The program features musical works by composers such as Lavinia Meijer, Johann Johnnsson, Olafur Arnalds, Claude Debussy and interpretations of ‘Teardrop’ by Massive Attack and ‘Perfect Day’ from Peter Rabbit.

Celebrate modern neoclassical music with us amongst illuminated flower beds for these enchanted 65-minute performances. Choose between attending as the sun sets (6pm) or under the starry-night sky (8pm) for a truly kaleidoscopic music experience.

Loni Fitzpatrick has taken her career to many parts of the world and around Australia. Performing with an array of orchestras and ensembles on several stages from the Sydney Opera House to Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Melbourne’s Hammer Hall and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Loni has always been driven to expand her sound world which, in addition to her love for ensemble and orchestral playing, has seen her exercise her curiosity by engaging in playful experimentation with extended techniques, voice and electronics. Her effervescent personality reflects in her enthusiastic and captivating performances.

Loni is a happy hiker/harpist/vocalist/performer/teacher who is currently based in the beautiful tropics of Far North Queensland. Raised in a small country town in Central Queensland, Loni moved to Brisbane to pursue her career in music and performance, studying at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Griffith University) from 2011 to 2015. In 2016 she relocated to Sydney to continue her studies, with a brief stint working in Melbourne for Opera Australia’s 2016 mammoth production of Wagner’s ‘Ring Cycle’, before returning to Brisbane in 2018 to continue freelancing.

Accompanying Loni for this one-night-only program, is a beautiful trio of talented musicians featuring Ruben Palmer on Cello, Aisha Goodman playing the Viola and Isabel Tzorbatzaki on the Violin.

This performance takes place within Eden Gardens amphitheatre in Macquarie Park. Set on 2.5 acres, this nursery features a cafe, florist and display garden in addition to a sizable indoor and outdoor retail area. Wicker chairs, striking pots, masses of fiddle leaf figs and other on-trend house plants give the place an impressive aesthetic.

Eden Gardens is within walking distance from the Macquarie Park train station and is a 15 minute drive north of Sydney City via M2. There is free onsite parking.

Music in The Sky was conceived to take audiences on a visual music experience. The music being at the heart of the program, ranges from classical greats to modern contemporary and neoclassical styles with performances being enhanced by immersive lighting designs, digital projections and visuals. Each show is a piece of its own art, in a musical and visual sense.

Our inaugural performance back in May 2021, featured pianist Luke Howard with The Nano Symphony in a six-piece ensemble. Since then, Music in The Sky has hosted mini shows in unique intimate settings, seeking to celebrate modern neoclassical music, while immersing audiences in a kaleidoscopic experience.
