MUSIC IN THE SKY MINIS

Following on from sold-out Music in The Sky shows in May 2021, we're excited to launch an unforgettable new series of intimate Music in The Sky musical experiences - Music in The Sky Minis. Each Music in The Sky Mini celebrates  modern neoclassical music, transporting the audience into a different space and time, through music, mood and atmosphere in unique and unexplored sites.

MUSIC IN THE SKY | CIELE CELLO

14 & 16 JANUARY 2022  (2 SHOWS EACH EVENING)

"Why write for the violin when there's the Cello?" - Rachmaninoff.

This first of six minis celebrates the ciele "heavenly" qualities of the cello. Staying true to Music in the Sky soul, a large part of the 65 minute program will be a blend of immersive neoclassical cello arrangements such as Hans Zimmer Interstellar, tunes from Ólafur Arnalds’s popular Living Room Songs and Gabriel's Oboe from the movie The Mission.

The program will also include chamber music such as Dushkin’s Sicilienne In E Flat Major  and Faure’s 3 Mélodies, Op. 7 - Arr. Hazell: 1. Après un rêve, both played at the Royal Wedding of  Prince Harry and Megan Markle.

Performing in an historic, sandstone tunnel at the Coal Loader in Waverton are the most amazing Cello trio: Eleanor Streatfeild, Emily Palethorpe and lower north shore local Andrew Wilson. Supporting them on the piano is the outstanding musician Brieley Cutting.

THANK YOU TO JAMES ESTATE

To enhance the experience of the evening, each patron will be served either a glass of the premium James Estate Reserve Range Shiraz 2019* or Chardonnay 2019*. James Estate Wines are built on a foundation of quality, experience and a sense of “place” that encapsulates the lifestyle and creative spirit of the Upper Hunter Valley.

ABOUT THE VENUE

This performance takes place in Tunnel One of the Coal loader Centre for Sustainability.   Located on the western side of the Waverton peninsula, it is just five minutes' walk from Waverton Station.  Tunnel One is one of the four 180 m- long, coal-loading tunnels, running parallel to each other under the Coal loader main platform. The music will be fully acoustic and beautifully amplified by the crushed sandstone and heritage-condition concrete surface. Tunnel One is only opened to the public on special events, such as this Music in the Sky mini performance.
